In the course of a histopathological examination of the regional lymph node extirpated for gastric cancer, the cross section of a nematode larva was detected in an eosinophilic granuloma. Since it could not demonstrate specific features owing to its oblique section as well as its degenerated inner structure, another part of the worm was selected from the remainder of paraffin block in order to prepare a right transverse section. The latter section revealed the distinctive morphological characteristics of Anisakis larva as follows: the polymyarian-type muscle layer, the renette cell, and the Y-shaped lateral cord. In this way the 16th case of extragastrointestinal anisakiasis in Japan was reported.

Key words: Anisakis; eosinophilic abscess; extragastrointestinal anisakiasis
